Zwartkop Mountain, Hilton
Sunday, 7th November 1999.

A small party of thirteen, some new faces, set out from my house for the
mountain. The distance of approx 7km was accomplished quickly as the route
taken was on forestry roads, the last 1km was extreme as one climbs
approximately 150m in that distance.
andnbsp;
The summit was rather uneventful as the
humidity restricted the view one would normally enjoy at an elevation of 1450m
, and also the litter left behind by some of the locals made it unpleasant. No
wild life or bird life was spotted and the closest we came to hearing birds was
Mr Harris’ melodic whistles, and after lunch and cold beers we headed back.
andnbsp;
This hike is best appreciated after a Berg snowfall, as Monks Cowl and
other Berg mountains are clearly visible. The total distance is around 14km and
takes approximately 6 hours to accomplish.
